Hi! I'm Cheryl Baeza, Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
I have earned my natural, platinum blond hair with 35+ years of service in my mental health community. Regardless of the setting & nature of client concerns, my training & experience has taught me to individualize, be non-judgmental, & empower everyone I encounter to be the best person they can be.
I became a social worker in Watts, California in 1970 after obtaining my B.A. from the University of Colorado. After five years of work as a social worker in Watts & as a probation officer in a treatment center, I acquired my Masters of Social Work from the University of Southern California.
I have since worked in a variety of settings including adoption, out-patient child clinics, a family service agency, CASA project director, & an HMO where I worked with children, families, couples, & individuals. I was a Field Instructor at University of Southern California and California State University Long Beach for 10 years and taught Social Work Practice at Cal State. I have experience with substance use disorders & co-occuring mental health issues. More recently, I've worked with clients with chronic mental illness & seniors.
Being a senior myself, I like to show the younger folks just how it’s done. As a life-long learner, I am currently taking a Trauma Informed Yoga Class. I enjoy water aerobics, book club, walking, & volunteering. My volunteer work is very meaningful to me because I believe a strong, compassionate community is critical to personal growth & good mental health. I also love being active in my local PEO - Philanthropic Educational Organization for women. Some say I should be retired, but I would miss being a therapist too much. Couches are for potatoes, & my bucket list is long!
